Why adolescents become confused between childhood and adulthood?

Adolescence is that stage where an individual gains puberty, maturity, sense of responsibility, he's able to make decisions etc.
But this stage is very critical if we consider the feeling and emotional balance of that individual
Other consider him to be a grown up child and sometimes he thinks of himself to be a child
His childish behaviour, his grown up talks, emotional status are a mix of childhood and adulthood
So the person undergoes a transformation physically and mentally too
