Africa was called the Dark Continent - not because of the complexion of many of its people and the absence of light ,but because knowledge of its interior was very limited .This old notion has lost his significance now. It is actually known as Dark Continent because of it's stricken and masses who were suffered badly in the hand of colonialism. Furthermore, it is the last of the continents to be influenced by the Western civilization. This can be started as another reason for African's undevelopment.
