Little was known about Africa for the longest time in human history. While it is well known that the African continent was mostly under European control until the late 19th century, it was still hardly mapped out and explored, even after the European powers divided the land among themselves during the 'scramble for Africa'. It was not until the 20th century that those people occupying Africa were able to further explore the land and take full advantage of its abundant resources.

African features were unknown till 18 the century. It was hard to know about Africa at that time because of desert and indigenous forest. No one was unsuccessful to enter interior of Africa. At that time who goes to African continent never returned. so it was called as dark continent.
