Why air is a mixture and not a compound?

air is a mixture because a mixture is any substance which when mixed with another substance does not mixes with and not loses its actual chemical components whereas compound when mixed easily get mixed with substances.

Because mixture is a physical combined but compounds are chemically combined . In air the gases are just combined
