Why air transfer is prefaced in north east?

North eastern part of India is a hilly terrain. Among the northeast States only Assam has considerable plain area. The rail connectivity is to states other Assam is very poor. Due to hilly terrain, the conditions of roads are very bad. For example to reach Aizwal, the capital of mizoram from Kolkata, you have to first come to guwahati by train, which takes minimum 18 hours. From guwahati it takes more than 20 hours by bus. The distance between Aizwal & Guwahati is only around 600 kms. Due to poor road conditions, buses can't travel more than 30 km/hr.

I hope this describes why people of Northeast prefer to travel by air. They don't have other suitable option.
