Airplanes don't fly over the pacific because it is a very big ocean. In case of an emergency when the plane is flying over the Pacific it can't land or do emergency procedures. If at all the pilots land it in the water( ditching in aeronautical term) then it would take hours or even days to get to them and help. By that time the people's lives would be lost. This is the reason for mostly not letting the planes over the pacific.
