- Aluminium or Al forms ionic bond which is strong.
- It is much stronger than Coke.
- Aluminium has much stronger affinity than coke.
- Coke does not even form an ionic bond.
- Now, we know reduction reaction is a reaction where a stronger elementreduces the stronger one to make it pure.
- Here, we want to reduce aluminium from aluminium oxide.
- But, Coke which is is going to act as a reducing agent, is less stronger than aluminium.
- Hence, aluminium cannot be obtained by reduction with the help of coke from aluminium oxide.
