.In the reaction with bases it behaves like acid.so it is amphoteric.

REACTION WITH ACID

Al2O3 + 6H------> 2AlCl3 + 3H2O.

REACTIOM WITH BASE

Al2O3 + 2NaOH ----> 2NaAl2O2 + H2O.
