The albatross was called as a Christian soul because the mariners thought the Providence sent a living creature to them for company in response to their prayers. They were so glad to find a living creature at the pole where they had not seen any living being or animals for days together. So in their happiness they called it a Christian soul.

The albatross was considered as christian soul because its arrival look away all miseries that the mariners were facing they felt that lord christ had sent them for a help in the form of an albatross and as there were no other creature seen so far so in there happiness they referred albatross as Christian soul.
