Alcohol is not a universal solvent. To be precise, water is considered as universal solvent. Because water can get dissolve all things.

Explanation:

  • For example, the water would dissolve the limestone and then precipitated out as ‘stalactites and stalagmites’.
  • When considering the alcohol, it is non-polar and can dissolve all kinds of polar substances.
  • It is also considered as a better solvent for other non-polar substances like fats, oil, and grease. In some other substances like platinum, they don’t get dissolved instead it would react.
