Why algae present are stagnant water bodies are green in color?

Stagnant waters exposed to sunlight turn "green". This is because they have raw minerals in the form of salts of N, P and K etc. These are nutrients and airborne spores of the algae get into water sooner or later and turn green due to algal growth.

Answer: algae can be present on vegetation,in the air,soil and water.Their microscopic spores are continuosly introduced into water bodies and other waste reseviors by wind,dust,storms,rain showers etc.. They grow in stagnant waters when exposed to sunlight and temperatures.
