Why alkali metals have largest size in their respective period ?
Answers
Your answer is given below.
Alkali metals
The metals present in 1 A group are all known as alkali metals. They are named so because they are naturally present in the alkaline form and never occur in free state. Cause they are highly reactive elements.
Alkali metals include :
- lithium
- Sodium
- potassium
- Rubidium
- Cesium
- Francium
Why the have the largest size in the entire period ??
As more and more electrons start filling in the same shell as happens in the case of the periods the size of the atom keeps on decreasing as we move from alkali metals to the noble gases .
Now the alkali metals have the largest size because they have very less number of electrons filled in their valence shell which gives them high reactive nature and also the tendency to easily lose electrons and form compound.
Therefore they are lighter inway as well as largest in size as there is few Electron filled hence no more strong nuclear force will be faced by the outermost electrons and size will also not be reduced.
