Alkali metals have only one electron in their valence shell which is loosly bounded. ... Alkali metals are very reactive as thy readily lose an electron upon oxidation by air and form cations. Na and K readily burn in air because the reaction is highly exothermic. Hence, alkali metals are not found innature.
