Why all life would came to an end if there is no green plants?

If there will be no green plants left in this planet, life of every organism would come to an end as because green plants provide us sufficient oxygen through which our existence on this planet is maintained, but if there'll be no oxygen, none would survive. That's why it's said that :

"Plant green plants to maintain your existence."
