Answer:

Because some metals are highly and vigorously reactive with oxygen like Zinc but some are less reactive like calcium so in order to make them react highly some amount of organic substances are added which are regained after the reaction. They are known as catalysts.. eg- vanadium pentoxide (V2O5 )

if you have read about periodic properties then you must know that when we move along A period from left to right in a periodic table then the reactivity of metal decreases continuously and periodically due to 2 addition of 1 electron after each element does resulting in shielding effect and variation in electronegativity hence all the metals do not react with oxygen at same rate

for an example group 1 metals react vigorously with oxygen to form metal oxide where as group 13 metals such as aluminium and galium react very slowly with oxygen
