Why only some fishes, all fishes constantly open and close their mouths for breathing. By this, they take water in the mouth and pass it over their gills so that the gill filaments and the closely nit blood capillaries on them absorb the dissolved oxygen from the water and in exchange give out the carbon dioxide.
