Why amd for what purpose india made IST? And also what os the ise of IST

ist means Indian standard time. the meridian passing through the centre of India I.e.from Allahabad (prayagraj) of 82½°E is taken as ist to take a uniform or same time for the whole country otherwise the India will be divided into several time zone....
