why ammonia is basic in nature?

Nitrogen has total 5 electon in outer shell. Nitrogen share its 3 electron with hydrogen to complete its octat. So these is lone pair in NH3. So it is electron rich. Therefore it act ar lewis base. It can give electron pair to (lone pair ) to electron deficient molecule (lewis base). So due to presence of lone pair it is basic in nature.HOPE IT HELPED U
