HERE'S THE ANSWER ✌

Ammonia has lighter than air, i.e. the gas with the low density and it is also highly soluble in water. Thus,it is collected by downward displacement of air in place of water, while sulphur dioxide is 2.3 times heavier than air, i.e higher density and is highly soluble in water. Thus, it is collected by upward displacement of air.
