amphibians are consider as a unsuccessful land vertebrates since they could not completely get independent of water.

they need water for egg lying and water plays crucial/lead role in their fertilization process.

besides this their eggs can get dehydrated completely if not kept in water due to absence of protective covering.


even their larvae respire through gills at their early stages of growth.

they have skin as one of their respiratory organ which exchanges gases through simple diffusion. we are well aware of the fact that moist surfaces are a must for diffusion to occur; and this fact brings us to another point which tells how they are dependent on water.
