Pressure is inversely proportional to area of contact. The smaller the area of contact, the higher the pressure. The continuous chain in the army tank is meant to increase the area of contact between the tank and the ground. In this way, the pressure the tank exerts on the ground is lowered enabling the tank to move effectively.
