why an ice float on water

Ice floats on due to an anamolity of water. Most liquids when freezed show na increase in their density but water until it is cooled to 4°C shows increase in denisty. But after this fro.4° to 0° rather decreases in density and expands in volume.This is called anamolous expansion of water.

Now due to this phenomenon 1kg of ice has more volume than1 Kg of water i.e. water is denser than ice. Aand since less dense bodies float in more dense liquids,therefore ice also floats on water.
