why an iron needle sink in the water but a ship made of iron floats on water ?

It is because the surface area of needle is so small. So a needle cannot balance on water. But surface area of ship is larger.. That is why it is able to float.

because a ship has hollow place beneath which makes the density lesser than water and a iron needle is of great density than water
