The US got involved in WWII because the Imperial Empire of Japan attacked and bombed the US naval base at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Japan attacked to US because the US had stopped shipments of crude and refined oil and other supplies to Japan. Japan is a country of few natural resources, so they attacked China to gain more independence from imports, and to “Unite the 8 (yes, 8) Corners of the world under 1 roof”. The Japanese saw themselves a superior to the other East Asian nations, and when the other nations didn’t want to join their coalition, and Japanese decided to use force. And they needed natural resources.
The US didn’t like this war of aggression in China, so they started to impose tariffs and finally shut down all trade between the US and Japan. Now Japan needed to find other ways to get oil. The closest one was in the Dutch East Indies, but to get there you needed to go through the Philippines, which the US owned. So, instead of just waiting for the US Fleet to show up after the Japanese attacked Manila, they decided to strike first at the US, and try to deal a crippling blow. They succeed, but the didn’t hit the Oil stores, repair facilities, or Aircraft Carries, which would bit them 6 months later at the Battle of Midway. Naturally after getting attacked, and losing 7 battleships, many destroyers and various other craft, hundreds, if not thousands of planes, and 3000 American lives lost, the US declared war on Japan, starting the US into WWII. Nazi Germany, headed by the dictator Adolf Hitler, decided to declare war on the US (In my opinion, that was a incredibly stupid move), on December 11, and Italy soon mirrored to suite. That is how the US came to be in WWII
