Some steps to prevent iron objects from corrosion :-

1) PAINTING :-surface of iron can be prevented by coating with paint to keep air and water away from the metal surface.

2) COATING WITH OIL OR GREASE :-bicycle chains, door hinges and car engines which cannot be painted are coated by a layer of oil or grease.

3)COATING WITH ZINC, ALUMINIUM AND MAGNESIUM METALS:- an iron layer coated with a thin layer of zinc is called galvanised iron.

●Zinc being non reactive prevents the iron surface from rusting.

●aluminium when applied on the iron surface forms a very resistant aluminium layer.

●Magnesium being more reactive than iron corroda fast and prevents the iron pillars submerged in the seawater from rusting.
