"why and when did the narrator say that everything was going well it was an easy flight?" This is an excerpt from a short story.

This excerpt is from the short story “Black Aeroplane”. Frederick Forsyth was the pilot who describes his strange flight experience he had in this story. The story is about a pilot who lost in to dark cloud during his flight from Paris to London and guided by a strange airplane that had appeared in the middle of that cloud.

The narrator was flying in a Dakota Airplane which is a military transport vehicle. When Dakota took off from Paris, the narrator said everything were going well and it was a nice flight before dark clouds prevailed the sky and the situation got worse when Dakota moved further towards London.
