To make silk, the cocoon of the silk worm is boiled in water and as a result the worms die in the process of making silk. Hence, animal activists are against it. Since artificial silk is not as fine as natural silk, an alternate way is suggested which is called a non-violent way of making silk. In this method the worm escapes as cocoon is cut. However, it affects the length of the fiber produced.

Silk fibres are obtained from silkworms hence they are called as Animal fibres.
Silk is produced by moth called as Silk moth.
In sericulture, the  breeding and management of silk worm will take place.
During this reeling process , At the cocoon stage, all  the cocoons are gathered and kept under the sun or boiled or exposed to steam, . Boiling releases the silk fibres from the cocoon.
As the caterpillars or pupa's  are killed inside the cocoon to obtain silk, animal activities are against this method of silk production.
