The cell wall occurs in plant cells only. It is a protective covering which is found outside the plasma membrane.

This is because the function of the cell wall is to provide a definite shape to them. The cell wall helps in providing rigidity. It gives mechanical strength to the plant cells. The cell wall protects the internal structure and the plasma membrane of the plant cell from the outer surrounding conditions.

And these all functions of cell wall are not required by the animal cell. That's why only plasma membrane is found in the animal cells.

Answer:

Animal cells don't have cell walls because the cell walls are made up of phospholipid bilayers and proteins. Even though the animal cells' don't have cell wall for protection, but it has endoskeletons and exoskeletons that can protect the cells as well.

Hope it will be helpful :)
