it is because the ants in the poem never lends never borrow and if they help cricket also in next time cricket didnot do any work and comes to ant for help.................

Because the ants never lend nor borrow..
he said this because he noticed that cricket was singing and dancing all the summer instead of storing food for upcoming winter...
