Yes,
It is true to say that antibiotics don't have any effect on viruses. They only stop the growth of bacteria.

Now,
A very common question :- why they don't affect viruses.
So,
Answer is :-

Antibiotics work on a basic principle of treatment.
Antibiotics stop the basic mechanism of any body present in our human body which is not similar with us.
That means antibiotics can stop the life process of any invading organism only and only if the organism has a different mechanism for his survival and it uses a unique mechanism for its sustenance.

So,
Bacteria prepare cell wall which is absent in humans.
So, if any agent blocks the process of making of cell well, who will be affected.
It the bacteria only as we, the humans, don't have cell wall formation in our body.

This is the principle on which the antibiotics work.

But,
Viruses don't have any unique mechanism.
The viruses uses our(human) own mechanism for their sustenance.
When a virus enters our body, it enters our nucleus directly.
From there it starts extracting all is needs of nutrition.
Moreover, it is not having any cell wall formation or any other mechanism which is not found in humans as it uses the mechanism of the affected human only.
That is why,
The antibiotics are of no use and effect on viruses.

Moreover,
There are now, very very very less or no medicines to cure the diseases caused by viruses.
Whenever one suffers from any disease caused by virus the doctors prescribe the medicine which cures the sign of inflammation in order to give a bit of relief to the patient.
