Apple is known as false fruit because in it major part of fruit is formed from thalamus not from ovary.

Because a real fruit is formed from the ovary of a flower. An apple's flesh is not derived from the ovary but instead it is a swollen receptacle (or part of the stem). The actual fruit is in the core, the bit we throw away. The same is true of pears. Strawberries are also false fruits but that is another story
