The apple is called false fruit bcoz the main edible part ( fruit ) is not derived from the ovary. Usually ovary changes into fruit. Such kinda fruits are called true fruits. Fruits develop from any other part rather than Ovary are called false fruit. Apple is not derived from ovary. So it is called a false fruit.
