Women are underrepresented in many places and mostly in governing bodies.
Although half the population is women in India and still very low numbers are seen in governing bodies like the Lok Sabha or the Rajya Sabha.
This is why the government has reserved 1/3 seats in local governing bodies. The aim is to boost up the morale of women to take part and work with the government.
