Well actually ac current cannot cannot be stored but dc current can.
The reason is that ac current reverses it's polarity of oscillation after every fixed interval of time and hence it cannot be stored due extrinsic property because of which it oscillates through the external part and not the core
Dc on the other hand remains localised and does not change polarity and hence can be stored
