why are acids more corrosive then bases

They don't corrode many metals, because metals tend to lose rather than accept electrons. Aluminium is one metal that reacts with bases. But bases are highly corrosiveto the skin and other organic substances. The image below shows the skin damage caused by OH- ions in oven cleaner.
