Why are alcohols weak acids

Water is a better acid than alcoholbecause of the electron donating nature of the alkyl group attached to the oxygen which destabilizes the hydroxide(in the case ofalcohol,Alkoxide)ion & makes it tougher for the oxygen to donate the proton.
