Why are alkanes insoluble in water and are readily soluble in organic solvents like chloroform of ether?

because it is a nonelectrolytes ..which not dissociate in ions and it is a covalent molecules (none polar molecule).but chloroform (carbon tetrachloride) is a polar molecule in which chlorine is more electronegativity atom than carbon. so chlorine get partially negative charge and then dissociate into ions.
