Why are alkanes such as methane and butane used as fuels?

the alkanes are highly combustible and are valuable as clean fuel burning to form water nd carbon dioxide.methane nd butane r gases and used directly as fuel.....hope this will help u

Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbon compounds which contains carbon-carbon single covalent bonds.


Alkanes are used as fuels because :


⇒ They have high calorific value .

⇒ They are easily combustible .

⇒ The reactions are highly exothermic releasing a lot of energy.


Hence they are excellent fuels.
