All places are not equally cold because -

  • The axis of the earth is tilted at 23.5° angle towards the sun. So, the different portions of the earth recieves different amounts of solar radiation or heat energy. The equatorial regions get a lot of solar heat energy due to almost perpendicular fall of solar rays. On the other hand, the polar regions the sun never rises more than 23.5° over the horizon, so very less amount of heat energy is recieved by the polar regions.
  • The temperature of a place is also dependent it's altitude from the sea level. Now, different places have different altitudes as well as different temperatures. A higher place will be colder than a lower place.
  • The geographical characteristics of a place also decides the amount of coldness of that place.
