Amendments are made in the constitution if:-
*some of the rules might have become irrelevant or outdated in the present society.
*some rules about the topics (such IT or Internet), which were not relevant  or unknown at the time of enacting the constitution, needs to be added.
*Certain national policies (such as terms on reservation, system of elections), powers of organs (such as the different subjects under state list) etc. needs to be updated.
In simple words, a constitution needs to be updated whenever there is a change required in the fundamental rules and framework of the country. Amendments help to add, edit or remove the different sections of the constitution, and thus helps to adapt it to the modern topics and society well.
