Why are anions bigger than netural atoms give reason

Netural atoms that have gained all electrons are called anions. And they are much larger than their respective atoms. As an additional electrons occupies an outer orbital there is increased electron - electron repultion (and hence increased energy shielding) which pushes the electrons furthur apart.
