antibiotics are the powerful drugs which kill disease causing bacteria.these antibiotics block the biochemical pathway needed for bacteria and also block the processes which help in making the cell wall for bacteria. As a result bacterial cells cannot protect themselves and die.hence antibiotics are effective against bacteria.however these antibiotics won't work against viruses as they donot use biochemical pathways in the body.
