why are antibiotics effective against bacteria and not against viruses​

Antibiotics cannot destroy viruses because they specifically target the machinery found in bacteria .Since viruses do not contain any of this machinery,the antibiotics does not have a target to attack..

Bacterias can be killed easily by antibiotics if their protective walls are broken by the antibiotics . Antibiotics can stop a bacteria from reproducing more ones . But it cannot do the same to the virus because a virus doesn't only infect our body . It also joins itself to our body cells hence making more and more viruses as when cells reproduce they will also get reproduced automatically since they are a part of this cell now . Also viruses have a protein coat which is immune to the antibiotics . Hence bacteria effective against bacteria but not against viruses .
