  • Antibiotics generally destroy the cell wall of the pathogenic microbe and block the biosynthetic pathways. Such cell wall structures and metabolism are not found in a virus. So, antibiotics normally do not kill a virus. However, doctors prescribe antibiotics even in a viral infection, just to check opportunistic/secondary infections.
