Submersed, free-floating and emerged weeds invade ponds and tanks. In the nutrient-rich fish ponds, blue-green algae (mainly Microsystis spp.) often cause mass mortality of fish. In Uttar Pradesh also, aquatic weeds are responsible to hamper the fish production in many ponds, lakes and reservoirs.
