The aqueous solution of ionic compounds are able to conduct electricity because of the presence of free ions. When ionic compounds are in solid state, they r bound by strong electrostatic forces of attraction and thus do not have any free ions. As liquids have weaker electrostatic forces of attraction between them, they have free ions and thus conduct electricity
