Why are carbon and its compounds used as fuel for most applications?

ANSWER

Carbon Burns in oxygen (air) to form carbon dioxide and water. During this reaction, a large amount of heat and light is released. Further once ignited, carbon and its compounds keep on burning without the requirements of additional energy. Hence they are used as fuels.
