Why are cell membranes selectively permeable?

Cell membranes selectively permeable are those who only allow some of the ions , molecule through them , not all types of ion can pass through it .

Cell Membranes are selectively permeable because they allow only certain substances useful to the cell and don't allow other substances. It acts as a guard and protects the cell.
