Cells vary in shapes since the activities and roles the play are different. The shape of the cell depends with the function it plays in the system. Cells from the plant are normally rectangular in shape since they possess cell wall which hard and turgid in nature giving most of the plants their straight shape example is the tree trunks. Animal cells are normally weak an less turgid example the ski  cell.
