Children are given vaccinations to prevent them becoming seriously ill or dying from various diseases such as measles, chicken pox, diptheria, mumps, pertussis (whooping cough), and others.
The benefits are that the children do not die from these sicknesses, and that the vectors for the diseases spreading is drastically reduced, which in turns protects those who cannot receive vaccinations (this is called herd immunity).
